tire pressure on a stock nightster
I just checked my mileage today. 106 miles, 2 gal to fill. 53 MPG.
i just went out to my bike. There’s a tire pressure label on the frame. It says 40 rear 30 front.
I read a lot of crazy stuff on forums.
Never go by the pressure numbers imprinted on a tire. Same tire on different vehicles will call for different pressure.
Two pounds too low and it starts To show in mpg as roll resistance increases.
I still say no way 53 mpg. Sportsters are thirsty.
Maybe your odometer is malfunctioning or your running on one cylinder. Rolling down hills with the engine off don’t count. Be well ride safe.

Don't know what to tell ya. 7.5 miles from my house to the gas station according to all of our vehicles. 7.5 miles on the Sporties odometer from the station to the house. I must be driving like an old man.
I resemble the "old man" remark!
So far this year I have averaged just over 50 mpg, stock 1200 Sportster.
Max has been 55.15.
Last year my average was 53.45 mpg over ~6000 miles / 38 fill ups.
Last year the max mpg was 57.35.
My miles are mostly on two lane state highways at 55-60 mph.
I get around 48-50mpg on the interstates at 70 mph.

I have a 08 nightster that is stock except for some V&\\;H slip-ons. I had never checked the air pressure until recently after the 1,000 service. It has 40 lbs. in both the front and rear tires. I check them cold on a warm day. The book says 36lbs for the front tire and 30 lbs for the back tire. Do I have two much air in my tires at 40lbs. Thanks.

p.s. I checked my gas mileage today and I got 57 mpg.
