Default Big Trip/Small Tank

&nbsp\\;
Going on my first big trip with my new Nightster next week. traveling from Cold Lake Alberta to Borden Ontario 2,300 KM or 1800 miles. Only have 550 miles on the bike, have yet to change oil or due 1000 mile service, bad part is i bought bike from&nbsp\\;second hand&nbsp\\;dealer and cant have the initial service done at a official harley dealer now.&nbsp\\; what are you guys getting for fuel milege , I figure I can go 200 miles on a tank of gas, is this about right? =20 + gas stops
&nbsp\\;
I checked the chain and it don't look too loose, Any&nbsp\\;tips for my trip are welcome. &nbsp\\;I figure I can do an oil change when I get there. and just say screw the 1000 mile inspection, what do you guys think?

Change the oil before you go.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Stop around every 130 miles, as you'll need to fill up around then, as well as stretch your legs/rest ***. Not sure why you say you can't have the service done by an HD dealer now.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; [&:]&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;Did they not transfer the warranty?

You can still get the 1000 mile service done by a dealer, but it'll cost you (I bought mine from a dealer and they still tried to charge me $320 for the 1000 mile service).&nbsp\\; I suggest finding an indy wrench in your area to do the service before you do the trip.

Congrats on the new ride!&nbsp\\; I've done a few medium rides and you'll have to stop every 120 miles or so to fill up.&nbsp\\; Assuming the bike has been broken in appropriately you should be good to go.&nbsp\\; Although my guess is they haven't done the first oil change - I would do that before I left (transmission too).

You cannot go 200 miles on a Nightster tank. As Barley and WVHogRider said, closer to around 120/130 miles. But if I was expecting long distances between fill ups, I would shoot for no more than 100/110 miles before filling up just to be on the safe side. Change your oil before you leave.

In May I did a 2070 mile Round trip between MA and Myrtle Beach SC. Averaged around 50 mph - sometimes less, sometimes more. But to be careful we stopped about every 110 to 115 miles. The other riders riding big twins were glad for the frequent stops to stretch anyway!. Be careful - 550 miles, you may still not quite be settled in enough to know what mileage you will get.&nbsp\\; Oh yeah - I had my oil changed beforehand, because I was just shy of my 5,000 mile service.

Have a dealer do the service first. Stop every 120-130 miles to strech and gass up. have fun and watch out for the cages.

You cant put sustained highway speeds on the break in oil. Youll torture the motor. Get it changed first

I would start looking for a gas station around 100 miles. Not worth the risk especially when traveling in unknown territory.
