All generalizations are worthless, including this one. Try forward controls before you jump.

I kept bottoming out on the nightsters stock setup (i'm 6'4" 205 lbs) I upgraded to progressive 412 HD shocks and upgraded to the progressive fork springs and heavier fork oil. now it rides on clouds and I can do 2 hrs easy even with the stock seat

The stock seat sucks, and you definitely need forwards and progressive shocks. I have the stock seat and stock shocks, but I have an iron azz and ride 4 to 5 hrs all of the time but my azz is sore in the end also. The trip to DC was about 3 hrs with breaks for gas and drinks but I had no problem. I am only 145 lbs so I am sure that makes a difference

I did a IBA ride on my sporty(1036 miles in 24 hrs). My *** was sorrreee. However, my friend also has a sporty and he has the 14.5" mustang solo seat....he was bragging about how comfortable he was. I am definetely upgrading.
