I made a set of fork braces that just bolt on to the fender mounts. They look really cool and you dont have to cut off the fender mounts. (They still serve a purpose). I have never had a rock hit me in the face so far. (Lucky? perhaps...) As far as water, someone told me you can tie a bandanna on the forks above the tire and it will block the water. The first thing I did when I got my Nightster home was take the front fender off. followed by new broomstick bars, Then pipes, then Biltwell Frisco bars, and back to broomsticks. But the fender never went back on. It just sits on the shelf frowning at me!!

I will take a fender over a spray in the face any day. Even in Southern CA I chose to run the front fender because of all the over-watering the city does in its greenbelts.

I leave it off, unless I'm going on a long road trip. Just riding locally I pretty much avoid going out in the rain. If you ride in the rain without a front fender you are going to get a snoot full of water, no way around it.
