Well I gave in and bought some Samson Sinister pipes sick of bike sounding like a vibrator in a tin, what I want to know is 1:Can I just replace my old pipes without it harming my engine? 2:If I need to add other stuff what do I buy and what cost am I looking at? 3:I dont know anything about air cleaners but from what Ive read it looks like most people do the SE stage 1 kit? Please enlighten the ignorant.Oh my bikes a 08 nightster.
I would get a PCIII or a Fuel Pak, but there are differing opinions about that. Some say you don't need to remap for only an exhaust change, unless you also change the air cleaner. But when I read the instructions that came with my exhaust, it said to do a remap. So, if I were you I would go ahead and get a new air cleaner to go with that exhaust and get the remap out of the way. You can also just go to the dealer and get an HD download. I had never heard anything bad about the HD download, but the instructions on my Hooker exhaust said that the HD download would void the warranty on my exhaust because it causes the bike to run too lean, and recommended a Dynojet tuner.
Well my dealer suggested putting a new ac in and getting the hd download also, what do you think is a fair price for putting the pipes on and doing the other stuff as well.
I work at a dealer, You can do ONE or the other. Either or a complete free flowing exhaust or a high flow intake. If you do both your bike will be working to hard to try over compensating for both, it can however correct one of the two with hardly any noticeable effect. BUT if you have the money, have the dealer reflash your computer with a Screamin Eagle download, at the dealer i work at its $88.
Weve had many many many bikes come in because people hooked up aftermarket fuel adders and they fried there ECM, which by the way is not covered under your warrenty. If your going to buy a tuner, buy the SERT (Screamin Eagle Race Tuner). Harley knows there bikes better then any company out there, weve Dynoed many different Tuners and the SERT by far blew the rest out of the water, harley can sneak HP/TQ out of those motors, and there not priced much differently then any other tuner on the market. I had the Cobara Fi2000r and donated it to Waste Management and put the SERT in mine and its like night and day....Just my $.02
Some dealers charge for the Map they install but we just charge an hours labor. We charge an hour because we install the Map, test ride and if it dont seem right we will tweak it a little more with another map, go back to the shop check engine temp, oil temp etc to make sure the bike is running correctly

Sound advice... If you have the money... Complete the full stage 1, with: SERT, A/C and dyno... Your bike will run like a raped ape, and a reputable dealer will still honor the warranty if something happens

Yes Sir!
By The Way...I didnt suggest the SERT and dealer installed goodies because i work at one, im cheaper then anyone around, I work at a dealer and didnt want to spend the money but as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for"....But as we all know everyone has there own opinion & preferences! Each to his own!
