Remove seat and disconnect rear taillight electrical from harness, left, right and license plate. Pull the computer and remove the tray and loosen the stud that holds the seat in place. This will give you access to the ˝” dia nuts holding on the taillight / turn signal assemblies. If you have a GearWrench ˝” wrench use it, this helps tremendously it will save you 20 min of time and a couple of bloody knuckles. Then loosen bolts for the strut covers and pull off the assembly. The taillights will still be attached to the covers. Be careful with the wires for the lights, the tabs securing them to the inside of the fender are brittle, I lost one off of each side. The reflectors and the license plate are held on by plastic (??) rivets.
When I tore apart the rear I didn’t replace the fender so I’m not sure how to remove the plastic. But it doesn’t look to challenging.
Thanks Judge P. As for bmxatv: I have a custom painted fender from Vivid Dragon I was thinking of installing myself. The other one has a small dent (similar to a hail dent). I have not purchased a "repair book" and probably won't. With good knowledgeable people like Judge P, I can probably handle small things like this myself.
