I have a 2005 883 that I bough recently and would like to change the stock pipes. I'm looking to buy legal pipes. Do you know if there is only Screaming eagle which are legal ? Any other legal brands ??? Also, Are there any of you who changed stock pipes for screaming eagles ones ? Is there a big difference with the sound and power if you compare with the stock ones ? Do you suggest me to change the air box at the same time for a Screaming eagle ? Will it change power ?
I'm new with harleys and any advice will be appreciated..
I had the SE Stage I AC & SE Street Performance Slip-Ons installed. This required a remap since mine is fuel injected. Mine is an '08 XL1200N & I couldn't be happier. The sound is MUCH better than stock, with the nice Harley deep rumble I was looking for. If you want just LOUD, you may want to go a different direction. This bike was wicked quick before, but now it will absolutely jump out from under you. I also had it Dyno tuned. Again, the best money I've ever spent.
I had the SE slip-ons, and it was ok on sound, but next to my roommates Softtail you couldn't hear it, so I bought some drags and put in some baffles. I don't really know why this wouldnt be legal, but hey I've been wrong before.
What region are you in? Are you required to meed California emissions? If so, then that might warrent some closer looks.

How's that affect the warrantee? I'd like to stay stock until the warrantee is up just to be safe.
Bassani pipes. When I changed my howeling chicken pipes to the Bassani pipes, I felt it in the seat, good boost in power. As they get run in they sound even better.
Yes to all of the above. California is it's own little entity so go through the dealer for "CA approved" pipes and have them do a reflash upgrade for the EFI (if equipped) or the re-jet. Better power & gas mileage. And leave the evap cannister alone: it doesn't rob you of HP and will save you legalities later.

I live in Kentucky, but my understanding is that the SE Street Performance Slip-Ons are 50 State legal. Parts were purchased from & installation done by the dealer, so it shouldn't affect the warranty.
