Hot Toppers are friction-fit (most of 'em) covers for bolt heads. They come in various sizes and forms to fit a lot of bolts. They're guaranteed for life. If you loose one (I've never had one fall off), Hot Toppers will replace it for free. My favorite bolts to cover are the ones on my handle bar clamp. Not as nice as stainless hardware, but substantially cheaper. They sell kits that cover the bolts on your engine/primary or the whole bike. Sold individually, too. Check online, at your dealer or local independent shop. Harley sells a similiar product line, but they're more expensive (who woulda guessed?) and don't fit as well.
For your head bolts, you can also get the covers that secure with an Allen set screw. Harley's version of set-screw type is good for this, but there are cheaper aftermarket versions, too.

WD 40 and a cotton swab. Keeps rust off for couple months of all weather riding. Wire brush if needed.

S100 Corrosion Proctectant works GREAT! to prevent it from happening. I usually have to replace many of them after my annual beach trip, but this year I used this stuff and WOW, no rust what so ever! I HIGHLY recommend this stuff.

Thanks everyone for your replies on this. I see that there is several choices here. I may go the Hot Topper route. Again, I thank you.

they are only VERY $$$ if you order the kit and are too lazy or stupid to just measuer the bolts you need an order them that way... we completely outfitted the chromester we did for my brother in the past... here are some pics of that... EVERY bolt on this bike was toppered... yes expensive but who cares... he bought this bike we did a ton of work to it and he sold the bike for a 3,000 proffit... not bad getting paid to ride it for 4 years, AWESOME BIKE

I have some of the HD bolt covers on my handlebar clamp bolts, head bolts and rocker box bolts. They are metal instead of the plastic hot topper ones and I think they look nice.

hottoppers are pretty cool but more than I wanna spend for a bolt hat (I couldn't just do a few...ALL would hafta be done). I've thought about going stainless...but I'm too lazy and I just occassionally WD-40 'em.

I just wanted to mainly do the ones that get the most oxidation. I may get more later but for now I'm satisfied with mine.
