Default unspent fuel? Glowing exhaust pipe...

Hi folks, yesterday it was rainy and damp, I had left my 73 sporty outside in the rain, but covered of course. I tried to start it(kick only) when I came home and it pop and spit back it me a couple times then it started to rain again so I covered it for the night. This evening I tried to start it again and again it popped and spit back at me. I finally got it started on half choke but the front exhaust pipe became red hot as I ran the red subsided. Is this glowing red due to all the unspent fuel or what? And should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

I think you're running too lean.

Too much fuel and not enough air.. Need to cut back on the fuel mixture needle valve just a little. Check your plugs also... Probably all black (carbon) deposit.

the real question is how was it running before being in the rain? and did you do anything to it

Pipes were RED? How old are the pipes? Possibly thinned out (enough to get that hot) and creating hot spot. This is happening at the bend? Bends are heat collection points.
