Default Primary fluid problem???

I changed my primary fluid this weekend and when I drained it it looked like chocolate milk.

I hadn't started it for about 24 hours. Looks like all of it was water contaminated. I have ridden in the rain many times. And even did it Friday (changed fluid Saturday).

I don't understand why the fluid came out like that. I have never submerged the case and I would hope water can not find a way in very easily. I put some oil in the primary until the milk stopped coming out to make sure it all came out.

The bike shifts much better and feels much stronger after the change. I haven't ridden it solo after the change only 2 up. It has as much power 2 up as it did before when it was only me ridding.

Should I change it again next week to make sure all the water is gone? Do I have problem with a leak or crack somewhere that needs to be fixed? Should I just keep and eye on it?

Can't tell you why or how the water got in there but Kerosene is good to clean the mess out of your case. Flush it good a couple times or more if needed and let it dry. Then fill it with a good gear oil.

Perhaps change the gaskets on the derby cover and inspection cover thats the only way water can get in that I know of.

Oil should always be drained when it's hot. When you let it sit prior to draining, the metal particles held in suspension settle out to the bottom of the case and then remain there when you drain the oil.
