Avoid direct spray on the front and rear signals, there are small slots on them that you use to pry them off if you need to replace the bulb, you don't want water pooling in the housing.
Also avoid direct spray on the speedo and under the seat if at all possible, when I'm doing a detailed clean i'll remove the seat and cover the electronics with a plastic bag as much as possible, thus allowing to clean the top of the frame and the entire rear tin.

I use an engine degreaser and let it sit for a bit then I use a car wash/wax combo on the paint. Mothers wax on the paint and Mothers chrome polish on the chrome (duh!). For the seat I use a leather cleaner followed by a leather conditioner.
