Default I know.....

....this thread belongs in the tech section, but I get better results in the Sportster section.

2007 883L barely runs. Diagnostics on the speedo indicated a P0373 code (crank position sensor). I removed and cleaned the sensor, and that didn't help. I purchased and installed a new crank position sensor, and the bike still runs rough. The diagnostic code is now P0374 which indicates a sensor synch error. How do I clear this and get the damn thing up and running?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Disconnect the battery to kill power to the computer for like 5 minuets or so.

Yes. There is no difference in the way it runs. The code indicated with the orginal sensor was P0373. Now with the new sensor, the code is P0374. I have not disconnected the battery yet, and won't get that opportunity for another day, or two.

that wont do anything except clear the code if you fixed the problem. id inspect the wiring and sensor again. could be something else along the line if the error code changed liked that

I did remove the ECM right before these problems surfaced. I wonder if I screwed that item up. This is frustrating....

i come across these problems in the automotive field all the time and it usually ends up being the wiring, either that or the bike may have jumped time.but, that's just my guess as i don't have much experience inside of a Harley engine.may have just gotten a bum sensor

Is the CKP tightened securely in the crankcase? To clear it, go into the diagnostic mode of the speedometer and call up the code. Press and hold the reset button. The display should then read "clear" meaning clear from "history". Turn of the bike then turn on and start and let run for a few. Shut down and see if the code reappears. If it does, you have a "current" code. Was there any other codes (esp. MAP)? The CKP & MAP sends inputs for the injector durations. Go buy an Electrical Diagnostic Manual for your bike and it will explain step-by-step how to resolve the "current code" problem. If it doesn't have a current code on the re-start, the EFI system is fine. PS: Unplugging the battery won't get you anything (otherwise the simplest method would be to unplug the maxi-fuse) anymore than it will clear your odometer. You can't screw up an ECM just by unplugging it unless you used a hammer to do it (and it would read aspecific code)! The CKP cannot "jump time" (unless it's loose) because it's reading off of the flywheel.

Try another sensor. I had a simular problem, changed the C/S sensor ran for a while before the same problem surfaced again, installed another sensor and it seems alright now.
I've been told these sensors are not made in the states, probably in the far reaches of Mongolia, they're not the best. You might get a good one next time.
I'll be honest, I keep a spare.
Also check the connector where the sensor plugs into the harness, might have slight corrosion which is causing a change in resistance and messing up the signal, give it a spray with some contact cleaner.
