Apes are not just for tall people either. I am only 5'4", and the 10" apes feel much more comfortable than the stock bars did. Plus, I have 4" extensions in my frame, so they end up close to the same height that 14" apes would be. The stock bars were not comfortable, and the thought of having to "lean" down to reach drags bars is just not acceptable to me, for comfort.
Don't let anyone online change your mind! Do what you feel is best for you, and what you like best. It's your bike, you will be riding it, screw everyone else.

Kahaone - I'm about the same hieght as you... But I keep thinking the apes would make my arms tired much faster since I've got to hold them up so high. What makes them more comfy than the stock bars? I like the look of the apes, but I've never had a chance to try them out.

I've done a 5 hour trip, with stops just for fuel, and I was completely comfortable with the arm postion the whole time.
On the other hand, when I had the stock bars, my shoulders, or back would hurt after 2 hours or so.
To me, these are much more comfortable than the stock bars. I don't need to lean over to reach the bars. They are right in front of me, and I can ride with a more straight up stance, without bending my back.
And you don't "hold your arms up", the bars hold them up.
APE HANGERS RULE !!!!!! I've been riding with 15" or 16"(I don't even know anymore)apes for so long anything else just feels weird. My arms don't get tired,or go nunb(at least not anymore than any other bike) and no matter what anyone says they're NOT dangerous.Drag bars, for me,feel like I'm leaning too far forward and all my weight is on my wrists. It's just not comfortable............again this is only MY opinion...........others will swear by drag bars
Like some else said(Shu?)don't let anyone talk you out of anything. There are as many opinions as there are different bikes on this forum.Do what YOU like

Apes allow for a more erect riding position and let the latimous muscles (upper back outside of shoulder blades) support a lot of your upper body weight vs. your lower back. I've ridden 300+ miles on both standard bars and apes this summer, and I can tell you I will be putting apes on mine.
