Default Web Site Help...

I'm opening my own business in January and I'm trying to figure out how to buy a domain name and build a site. I went to GoDaddy.com and I just can't afford to do the wrong thing. Has anyone ever built their own website that could give me some suggestions or some advice. I know this is probably the wrong place to post, but, I didn't find any links that related to tech questions. Thanks for your help, Chuck

I've used www.ehostsource.com to host my site for about 10yrs. (they do domain names as well) and I have my domains reg. through www.mydiscountdomains.com . There are likely cheaper places but both have been reliable for me and I maintain 3 domain names and two websites for my businesses for about $86/yr. I designed and built my own sites using Frontpage and have done some others for friends businesses. If you plan to do ecommerce the site layout, addons and overall cost will be much higher and be very involved for someone who is not skilled.
If you're tech saavy then you can figure it all out with ease and do a good job, if your not maybe pay someone to do it and than maintain it yourself.

Good luck.

Ok, I've got the domain name that I want, and I know that it is available. First I will just need a page that says who I am, my history, and what service I am going to provide. Hopefully by "late" March I would be able to put a picture of the items in what I would consider a web store. I would like a way that I could easily add items, update pricing, and availability. I would like to be able to bill through the online web store via credit card also. Thanks for any advice that you could give me..

I see. You need a webmaster.
The way I do all that is by ftp with Macromedia Dreamweaver. It's a site making program, and will set ya back a little bit. Worth the money too.
godaddy has some site building tools as well. I've seen them in there, but have never used them. Should be fairly easy to use.
Or....you can always hire someone to do all of that for you. I could do all of that for you for a nominal fee, but it would have to be after the Holidays as I work for UPS.

Ok, so you go to godaddy and you buy the domain name that you want for say 10$ a month. Now is this just a price for a few months or years and after that time, it goes up a lot more per month? Is there a program that you add to a web site to sell items, or, just how does that work?

domains are about 10 bucks a year. I grabbed the net, org, and com for my site. Should only cost you about 30 some bucks
You can pretty much do whatever you want with a domain. Doesn't have to be registered special or anything for sales, etc
