Bell makes a pretty decent 3/4 DOT helmet that's not too goofy looking - $60.

Hi guys new to the forums, but just wanted to point out that Fulmer Helmets has some pretty nice 3/4 helmets in metal flake as well as solid colors.
I myself have the flat black model, fits nice, DOT approved and all. It may not sit as close to your head as the Biltwell, but it is DOT.

Here's a pic from their site

Wow after reading that back to myself, kinda sounds like a "free plug"!
Not my intentions, sorry.

They're not supposed to look like astronaut helmets. Just curious.

Daytona makes some really nice helmets that are D.O.T. approved and are slim to your head. I too hated the "Gazoo from the Flintstones" look. Check them out dude.

Here's a guy that posted over on XLF after getting his striped so you can see the fit:

I think they're 1/2" taller than biltwells but not as wide.

My bad Cap...don't know how I didn't see this before I posted. Good helmets though.

I've only done old 70's helmets but it's pretty simple especially if the old lining is still there.First you have to get the styrofoam shell out. You just have to work it some and it will come out. Then try and take off the old lining and foam in one piece or at least keep it intact. You can use this as a templateWhat I did was buy some 1" foam and and some fabric that was as close to the original as I could find (Yeah,I was walking around Joanna fabrics with a '73 motorcycle helmet asking for help LOL)Cut your foam and fabric. Then sew the fabric onto the foam(I had some help on this part)Again, it helps to have the old lining for the pattern and where to sew it.Glue the foam to the inside of the shell and excess fabric to the outside of the syrofoam shell. If you stretch it real nice it looks like new.I used a latex contact cement.Be carefull.......some glues will eat the styrofoam.Put a few dabs of glue on the outside of the styrofoam shell and pop it back into the outer shell(helmet). On a '70's helmet it's basicly a headring and ear peices. The ear pieces are a little tricky but if they are there already, you'll see how they are attached. It's all glue and a little stitching

It's kind of hard to explain but I hope this helps
