Thanks for all the info guys. I have already installed V&H Straight shots on the bike, so step 1 is done! If I'm not mistaken a black screamin eagle heavy breather could be purchased instead of the chrome one? Some on here have said I would need to powder coat it but I think they sell them black now also. Anyone think a fuel pack would be a good idea as well?
that was RDSS that said his is at the powdercoater cause it looks like he bought his before they came out with the black version. I bought the black version and ended up taping off the element itself and painting it cause that's still chrome, it didn't come out that bad either for rattle can.
Looks awesome man! What type of paint did you use to finish off the air cleaner?
Thanks dude! It was a pain in the a$$ to tape off but it was worth it. I actually saw a couple people on here that did it and it looked really good. I used Rustoleum High Gloss Black. I taped it, man did i tape it, sanded, primed, sanded, primed and painted it MANY light coats until I was satisfied with the finish. Did the same thing to the gas cap as well. I figured, if it comes out that bad, then I'll take it to the powdercoater. good luck.
Thanks man, yeah I took my headlight trim ring, the turn signal relocation and drag bars and I painted them all myself too. It does take a lot of sanding though, I didn't use the rustoleum last time but ill give it a try this time and see how it works. I'll have some pics up soon. Ride safe and thanks for the help!
no problem threehouse. Yeah I'll prolly be doing my headlight trim ring too this weekend and I did the same thing to my turn sig. relocation brackets as well. I was never a big fan of rustoleum but that's all home depot carries and it ended up working out great. don't forget to post those pics dude!
Does the heavy breather get hot and burn your knee/leg while you're riding. I'm debating between the SE A/C and the Heavy Breather, the breather looks much better, but I am 6'0 and sometimes ride in shorts.
Your knee should clear the elbow of the heavy breather so you should have no worries.
+1, Yep just like papdop88 said, the knee should be clear, I run mid controls on mine and my knee clears the neck of the HB. Can't say I ever really noticed heat coming from it but I did on ocassion feel it from the stock AC.
