holly crap! you guys are NUTS!!! water on a towel TOPS! When i was in college at Mizzou on of the masters stu did a study on motor cycle accidents. his findings showed some 13 % of motorcycle accidents where as a result to TIRE shine! NO BS... it seeps into the rubber and becomes a slip in slide on the road! PLEASE do not shine yur tires!!! that is for trailer queens and show bikes that do not get rode... i show all my bikes year round and NEVER use it NEVER... you would be amazed by how much you use of your tire surface in turns... sure 13% does not sound like alot.. but that is enough for me... tire shine repells moisture and that creates a very slippery surface... for real, it can kill you... i never preach about bike safety.. hell you should see me ride... but this is no joke...
I would totally agree if the product was put on, left to dry and then off you go. However, if the product is put on, allowed to dry and then washed off the possibility for a slip and slide is gone and the tire still looks nice. The only problem I have ever had with a tire shine was the one time I made the mistake of using the clear super shine stuff because it doesn't wash off even with soap and such. That was not a good experience but I never went down.
I know you cant tell by my picture. But when I wash my bike my tires look really black, like tires should. Get some white wall cleaner from your local auto parts store or Wesleys Bleach White. Spray your tires and I wet my brush and scrub the hell out of them. They look great and I've never had any problems.
If the tire gets wet there is a possibility that the tire shine product could run into the tread. I used to use formula 2001. I used it once or twice and then talked to a few poeple about it. I stopped using it after that. This was years and years ago....
