Hey all - anyone have any real experience with Amsoil interms of running cooler vs. HD synthetic? I'm getting ready for the first oil change of the year, and am wondering if I should make the switch. I'm resisting the urge to get an oil cooler, so I was wondering if the Amsoil could help in that regard...
Also - if anyone has any other methods for keepin 'er cool, I'd be interested.
Thanks!
It's a case of Synthetic oils run cooler than Dino oils.
Mobil-1, Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple are full synthetic Group IV products.
HD's Syn3 is a is hydro cracked Group III synthetic made by Citgo. (A synthetic made from a petroleum base)
As for the oil cooler, unless you plan on doing a lot of idling through Death Valley, save your money.
I can not speak for Amsoil but I can say the Mobil 1 does run cooler (it also takes longer to reach operating temps) on my bike than Syn3 and the Syn3 runs cooler on my bike than Dino oil. It also cools faster than Syn3 or Dino after the engine has been shut down. The Sporty runs cool enough with any of the 3 oils I have used and it has never needed an oil cooler.
