This is the second time this has happened on my 07 XL1200N. One minute the bike starts perfect and everything boots up proper, rode it up to my mail box (i live at an apartment, its far away, im not too lazy :P) turn the bike off completely off, get the mail, and nothing. getting no power at all, checked connections and still [no go. Hooked it up to a smart battery charger and it gives me an F03 Battery Failed/Bad Batter get checked code. Last time harley came and picked up in their box truck and brought it back to their shop, said it was a bad a bad battery and was happy to replace it for no fee. Now its doing it again and my warranty is about to expire in may and i don't want to have this problem arise after its up.
Anyone else had this problem?
Never had the problem, but a few things to check: 1) If you have an alarm system, it may be draining the battery. 2) If you have a trickle battery charger on the battery, it may be cooking the battery...killing it. You need a battery tender instead. 3) When you "checked connections", the negative battery post is the most frequent offender. 4) Connections in the starter circuit...key/run switch. Check again. 5) If your headlight shows bright, the battery is likely OK, problem is elsewhere. Hope this helps.
I don't keep a tender on it as I ride everyday. Maybe not get on it 2 days max, any longer than that i start to twitch.
The negative was loose when i checked it but i got it back tight and still no luck. I do have have the HD factory alarm with siren, and i do notice sometimes it screws up, like won't disarm when i have key in ignition and will start to warn, this might occur 2 times a month? Something has to be killing my batteries to where they won't even keep a charge anymore tho... This battery is less than 2 months old as i had the same problem and harley replaced it. I'll contact harley in the morning in between classes. Maybe they can pick it up for me.
pull your relays out and check for corrossion. if you see white crap on them or one of them then clean it off and dylectic grease it. this happened to me countless times and many batteries and relays later the moco replaceed my entire main wiring harness. search for some of my posts on the subject. there is a HD bulletin issued for this issue. water intrusion into the fuse block.
Obviously they still haven't fixed that issue! My 08 nightster fuses get like that all the time. I have to keep cleaning them up. Maybe i wash my bike to much or get caught in the rain to much.
Sportsters don't like getting wet because of how all of the fuses and crap are just stuck there under the left cover.
Do a visual like wilburz said. That's prob it
