Sundog, the bike is a 09. jets are obsolete, he will need to use a fuel management device if he upgrades the air intake.

never mind, you caught it LOL

If you haven't actually changed the intake manifold and are relying on a change in the air cleaner element and can assembly alone, there is only so much you can achieve in terms of flow efficiency. The high flow SE unit relies on a 360 degree natural availability whereas the original backing plate has a ram air scoop to somewhat pressurize the can. Removing the flapper actually makes the opening a bit bigger allowing even more air by volume in and the backing plate can be drilled out to allow the unused air to blow right on to the jugs; aside from buying the high flow filter element it's free.

That particular filter will fit the stock air cleaner, but you're not going to get much benefit from the K&N filter if you put it in the stock box. I use the K&N filter with the Screamin Eagle air cleaner box. For the most part it works fine. One of the screw holes that the cover attaches to popped out last week, but the dealer finally agreed to replace it.

Tumbleweed, I agree with the above! Ebay is the way to go man...I just put on V&H Straighshot slip-ons and a SE Heavy breather all bought on Ebay. I paid about 450-500 for the both of them you just gotta shop around. I did all the work myself too and I don't know much about motorcycles at all. Check American Classic Motors on Ebay I picked up my slip-ons there for a geat price. I've got a power commander 3 also coming. I'd recommend the SE heavy breather too it looks great and works great! Good luck!

If ya wanna save some more $$$ look into Cycle Shack slip ons. They're not quite as nice looking as V&H, but a lot less money. They perform very well. And stand up to the test of time.

The dealer tells me that I "need" all kinds of sh*t to make this work adding up to dang near $1300.00 (of couse THEY have to do the work). V&H tells me that an SE intake isent a good choice, and the K&N is the best. This wont work with that, that wont work with this, that gizzmo will f**k up your bike if you dont have it dyno tuned, blah blah blah!! Not knowing squat about these products and being pulled so many directions from these "professionals" I'm da*n near tempted to just leave the bike stock and buy from no one. All I want to do is my own stage 1 upgrade...
Hey Tumbleweed please let us know what you come up with when you are done. I'm in the same situation as you are. I have an 08 883C with cycle shacks but I'm undecided and confused as to what to do for stage 1. I was at the dealer today and priced out the SE AC stage 1 and they want $400.00 to do the stage one upgrade. I want to do this myself and save a little money in the process. My obstacle is getting the remap for the fuel injection. It appears Harley is the only one who can put a harley remap on.

Boy their leaving a lot out. $400 is just for the race tuner. That would be Harleys equivalent to a Vance and Hines Fuel pak or a Power Commander III. They will want another $100 for the re-map (programming the race tuner). "It appears Harley is the only one who can put a harley remap on"...yeah they tried to sell me that line too. Another $140 for the SE AC. PLUS labor. Here’s what I’ve learned from the better experienced on this forum, and it’s what I’m doing. I’m going with V&H straightshot slip-on’s, a SE AC, and a V&H fuel pak. I’m buying it and installing it myself...there stage 1 done. This wont happen for a few weeks but I’ll let you know how it go’s. I’ve never done this kind of stuff before, but I’ve been reading a lot and learning a lot from the guys here…so I can do this and save big $$.
