I have an 05 1200 custom, on which I installed Vance and Hines straightshot slip-ons, rejetted and also added the high flow air cleaner. The problem I think I'm having is the bottom side of my rear heat shield is bluing and after riding for a little bit it seems to backfire once I let off the throttle. I stopped in and asked the dealer about this and they told me the bluing sounds normal with that pipe and the same for the backfire. Any suggestions? Thanks
I agree, you're running too lean. Sounds like a larger jet is in order. What size jets are you currently running and which "high flow" AC do you have installed?
Seems like "that's normal" are the only two words in dealer vocabulary. Blueing of the exhaust pipes is common and expected, but blueing of the heat shield is not "normal."
Sorry to keep bitchin, but here's another story of how Harley is going straight to hell. Seems once the stealerships get your name on the dotted line, and you're out the door, they are done with you, unless you want to venture back in with an open wallet, to get the shaft AGAIN.[:@]
I have the same set up as you with straight-shot slip ons, and SE a/c. I let the dealor install it and jet it. I dont notice any blueing of the heat shield, defently sounds wrong there, but i have a bunch of blueing on the exhuast near the jugs from the lean exhuast from factory. But i do notice a bit of back firing myself at times when i give it some throttle "too quick" it seems.
