Enjoy the Iron!
They both weigh about the same...give or take a few pounds. Nothing anyone could notice in handling

As big as you are I wouldn't even buy that nasty 883 Iron, the Nightster will be just barely large enough for you to ride comfortably on.
You really need to go to the dealer after your riding course and ride a Nightster and I would also ride a Dyna, there isn't enough weight differance to worry about for a guy of your size, no insult intended.

I wouldn't jump too fast on a new one.Thet just did the big trade up event and I would bet you could negotiate a much better price on a used one right now. They won't budge on an Iron too hot of a seller right now.The nightster is still a warm seller.A used Nightster would likely be the best bang for your buck.It is your money and will be your bike though so buy what makes you happy.

Default Same Frame

Iron or Nightster, both are based on the same Sportster frame, have the same seat height, same wheelbase, same center mount foot controls and 3# weight difference (the Iron being 3# heavier), as far as rider comfort and handling, there should be no diff. The only difference is engine displacement and styling.

I might be wrong, but, didn't I read in an earlier post that you couldn't do the 1200 conversion on the new Iron because of cylinder wall thickness? I might be wrong, but, I thought I read that. If that is the case, I'd go for the Nightster.

You just have to get new cylinders along with the other items you buy to do the 1200 conversion on the new 883's.

+1....dealers have more than enough 1 and 2 year old sporties right now, save a few bucks.

I love my sporty..that being said I'm 5'10" 220 lbs and its uncomfortable as hell for me to be cramped up riding her...so do yourself a favor and try dyna's as well.
