Default engine missfires

i have a custom bobber that i built two years ago with an 883 in it
Just recently had it dyno tuned, that part went well, however when i picked it up the mech said the battery was not charging
It drove home fine, took it out a couple days later and it started to miss and backfire
got home check voltage at the battery while running, voltage stayed at 11.10vdc
performed the check from clymers on the stator and it was putting out volts per spec, also check resistance accross the plug as well as continuity to ground those two were okay
The book did not really give any check for the voltage reg.
Is that what i am looking at as the problem?
It will still start and run

I am in new turf as far as electrical troubleshooting on a motorcycle

thanks

It's only supposed to put out 11 volts to charge a 12volt battery? Sounds like you have something going on, it should be around 13 volts. Is it a solid-state regulator? I would check all connections including grounds and battery connections as well. Could be a bad stator or regulator if all connections are good... make sure you put dielectric grease on all connections. I would suspect the regulator first, if one side of the bridge (Diodes)opens up it will not charge properly. check to see if you read any AC voltage across the battery terminals. If you do, I would try a different regulator.

If the output from the stator is correct, then you likely have a bad regulator. The regulator should be supplying 13.5 - 14.8 VDC as measured across the battery with the bike at a fast idle (2000 rpm).
