Certainteed (member here) painted his sidewalls white and they looked damned slick on his nightie. I believe he said it was exterior latex paint.
Some folks are skeptical and I might be, too - except that he's put 18,000 miles on them and I would have bet a bottle of whiskey that they were factory white walls.

While I have not done this procedure, I have seen the results after 18,000 miles and I was suitably impressed.
