Default DIY Electrical Repair

While riding with a few friends up to Hurricane Ridge, WA I was told that my tail light was out but the brake light worked. No problem, I've got another bulb in my solo bag.

Hurricane Ridge, WA

Changing the bulb out made no difference and discovered that the wire for the tail light came out of the clips and was rubbing against the tire - which burned through the sheathing.

Me looking at the tail light wire damage. Tucked wire back into clips.

Below are some photos of the repair job.

Back on the motorcycle jack.

Tire removed.

Damage to right tail light electrical wire.

Close-up.

My amateur repair job then wrapped with electrical tape.

Tested it before re-installing.

Bent the clips in to prevent the wire from coming loose again.

Washed the rear wheel while I had it off.

Repair job took me a total of 1.5 hours - which the dealer probably would have charged me for 2 hours for a total of $185 + parts.

Great looking Nightster Brian and great job documenting all the mods and fixes.
How do you like that S&S AC? I am debating on getting that or the Velocity stack. Really like that light too. Who makes it?

bdorr67, nice job on documenting the repair. You may appreciate this how to on makeing proper crimp terminations in a marine envireonment which has a lot in common with what motorcycle electrics have to deal with. There is more to getting the crimps right and sealed than I thought.

Default 2001 HD Roasd King Police

My HD is having what looks like an electrical problem, the motorcycle mechanic can't seem to find the problem, I was riding on the freeway and it suddenly stopped, lost ALL electrical juice, no lights nothing, then the lights started turning open then the headlight then the starter, it finally started but it was making explosions and missing idle too much. Any ideas?
