New Bike! Newbie to the forums..too
I never thought I'd get the chance to own one but I just ordered my 06 roadster, hopefully I'll get it by this weekend.
This is my first Harley, I have ridden a few 883's (not enough ummph for me) and a Duece. I have worked on bikes and been riding all my life but this new venture is still exciting! I wasn't sure I'd be this amped but I cannot wait!!!
One question I have is: what are the do's and don'ts for the 1200r? I have only done the Dynojet and added SE2's for now.
Thanks!!
JC
Do's: ride.
Don'ts: stop riding.
That's really all there is to it

But seriously it's a fun bike. I have the same - added SE2's and an S&S Air Cleaner. Makes it a new bike. Give it 1000 miles or so and see what else you want. I'm probably going to change out the seat next.
It is weaker in the suspension, than the motor. You dont lose money on the bike, you lose money on the upgrades. It is well designed. As it is set up now it will not overtax the engine, and will run plenty strong. Change the fluids and it will give you many pleasurable miles. THere is nothing you HAVE to do.
Worry about the motor later. Work on the ride, though again, there is nothing wrong with the bike that rode out of the dealership. Those engineers, did the best they could within the restrictions they are given. If you maintain it it will give you plenty of trouble free miles and you will not be eating anyones dust.
If you think of moving up then think of the resale value of this bike. Keep it clean just like the day you bought it. Keep your records of everything you bought. I love my 883, but I know it is my first harley. dyna or softail next. And when the day comes to pass it on, I want that next person to feel just like I felt when I answered their ad not knowing what I would find. A beautiful well maintained sportster that they could make their own and understand what it is to own a Harley.
The only thing I need is forward controls but I haven't found a cost conscience solution yet. I'm only 5'11' but I have longer legs and the middle placement of of the pegs is a bit uncomfortable for me.
Anyone have a suggestion where to find cheaper forward controls? I dont need anything fancy yet, can't afford it.
Thanks,
JC
