In the whole exhaust issue everybody seems to be concerned with performance , backpressure , sound , etc etc.
Is it basically true that if you use a "torque cone" or similar type of "reducer" that you will be creating backpressure to get the performance desired? I know you wont get the same performance as if you use a 2 into 1 performance type exhaust compared to a set of drag pipes , but they should be in the ballpark right ? Or am I waayy off ?
I understand that one WILL be better than the other , but , won't it BASICALLY be in the same ballpark ?
also , as far as dyno testing different exhaust systems , what is the range of additional HP is it all in range of like 5 - 10 hp or is it more like 20 - 30 hp difference ?
I have never really read too many before and after dyno tests to know
In reality probably 2 or 3 hp gain at the rear wheel for just an exhaust swap on a 1200. If it were 20 or 30 we'd all have it and no performance shop would ever sell another performance cam or heads or piston etc. etc.
Let the fight begin!.. Before you beat me up too much remember I said on a 1200 with just an exhaust swap AND measured at the rear wheel.
Anyone got any real life dyno run sheets that show what you got with just an exhaust swap? Not claims by manufactures or salesmen or "My buddy got" ...... Dyno you bike, swap exhaust and dyno it again.

The closer the engine is to stock the less that the exhaust will make a difference as long as some reasonable choices are made - short drag pipes with no cones or restrictions would be bad.
As more modifications are made - cams, heads, compression, and etc, the more more critical it is for the components to work together for the best results.
Like the man said just an exhaust change isn't going to do much and you won't see much difference between systems but...short straight through pipes can actually loose HP and torque. The big bang for the buck is in intake and exhaust with the mixture tuned for it.You may actually see 10 HP or slightly better gains with a good two into one header, a less restrictive intake and the mixture dialed in with either a carb or FI.
