Default New Baffles

I just installed a set of big city thunder baffles in my SEII mufflers on my bike. Wow what a difference in the sound of the bike. Very deep tone at idle and a great sound when I am rolling into the throttle. The install was pretty easy, the only issue was getting the old baffles out of the SEII mufflers. The trick that I found really help was starting the bike and once the oil temp starting going up I shut it down and the old baffles came right out. Total install time, 30 minutes, if I change back probably less than 10.

Any discernable difference in performance? Wonder if that's a possible cure for carb farts. Are they louder than the SEIIs were?

No change in performance that I can tell. Seems to still have the same get up and go that it had before. It is much louder and a much deeper tone. I very seldom ever got carb farts and haven't noticed any with the new baffles yet.

Well, Tim twisted my arm, talked me into the Big City Monster Baffles. Pricey but very well built and I installed them yesterday (was a piece of cake). Got to try them out today and yup, it sounds different; louder and deeper in tone. Retuning the engine might reveal a performance increase, but without any changes there doesn't seem to be any seat-of-the-pants difference. They're a more straight-through exhaust without the low-end torque loss penalty you get from drag pipes; the SE-II is a pretty well-designed system and while it would appear to be more restrictive, it apparently is not.

I had changed the SE-II AC to a Kurykyn Hi-Five AC and even with readjusting the low-speed jet I started getting carb farts (never had any before). After installing the Monster Baffles the carb farts went away. Why? Beats the heck out of me!

I have to say though, that the "stock" SE-IIs are still darn good sounding and perform well. Darn shame they've been discontinued, and I may still try to corner the market on any that are left out there.

Just to let Tim know, I found the Monster Baffle performance increase. Rode hard this weekend, and it's in the mid to upper-mid range. Wheeeeee! Hang on Momma!
