Default riding position:custom vs. Std.

I have an 883 standard; but am wondering if a Custom would be more comfy.....I also have a FXST.

Is the Custom as roomy as the FXST? Does it shift your weight more to the tailbone (which I prefer) ?

do they handle as good?

I think the customs forward controls are more "comfy"... but only after you get some more pullback on the HB's. Riding with your feet out and back hunched over sucks. Maybe a guy with longer arms might not have a problem tho.

All comes down to prefrence. I love riding like a parachute. Short legs stretched out on the forward controls, and looking forward to getting drag bars so I'm completely leaned forward stretching the hammy's.

Best bet is to sit on them both.

I've got long legs and arms, 34" inseam, 33" sleevelength. The forward controls and mini-apes are very comfortable for me.

Sporty forward controls would feel more like the FXST if you combine them with new bars. The stock XL custom bars are insufficient to give you the ride you are looking for. So adding forward controls to a standard setup will probably be even worse for the 'hunched over' factor; unless you add bars too. Some like bigger and smaller but DWG mini-apes are a good size for XL's.

I like the feel of the custom over mid controls except when you hit bumps and potholes...with mid controls, you can take a bump better by shifting your weight to your feet and absorbing the shock through your legs easier than with forwards. I have drag bars with a slit bend and do not feel at all hunched over at 5'11".

The forward controls do allow you to stretch out more, and the bars will make the ride better. That call also depends on the type of rider you are. On longer distance it is nice to be able to slow down (out of traffic of course) and stand on the mid point pegs and give your self a break without stopping, where with forwards you need a to pull over and stop.... Like the other post, potholes are bumps are much easier with midmount pegs...
