Angry dang it

Bought a chrome sprocket cover, took the wheel off, put it all back together like the repair manual says and when I tightened the lower shock bolt on the right side, it stripped. Im pissed cause I wanted to ride it tomorrow. But anyway I work at a auto store and can get a bolt for almost nothing. Should I throw a grade 8 bolt through there or should I wait until Monday and get the one from harley. I did a quick search and someone mentioned that the swing arm part has threads on it. Is this true?

If that is true I can almost see those threads being jacked. The bolt turns while theres a wrench on the nut. Any help would be awesome

Yeah, this may officially become a common problem if it keeps up like it has been. Yes there are threads in the swingarm. Hopefully it is just the bolt though!

I'm sure there is a common fix, and I don't know if this is the route to go, but if the threads in the swingarm were screwed (no punn...), then I don't think it would be too difficult to tap a larger thread size for a larger bolt. Just check it out though. Those have to be stronger than the bolt threads.

Edit: Helicoil would be a better idea haha.

Just a tip for anyone who happens to have bolts strip occasionally. Put a dab of grease, anti seize or whatever on the bolt prior to re threading and it helps it go in much smoother.

Alright, well im going to hope the fork is strong but at the same time I know my luck. I guess a helicoil wouldnt be too bad of a deal. Anybody off hand know what size bolt that is? And for a little humor how much will harley charge for that one bolt? My buddy bought five bolts from the stealer ended up paying close to fifteen bucks for em.

It's probably a couple of bucks. the typical Harley mark up. You can take the old bolt to Ace hardware and get the same for less I would imagine.
