Like SP said, they were'nt on the sporty's till '07, more of a CYA thing for HD. If you want to get down right technical, it's a hazard everytime you get on two wheels, and even with those feelers if you're going around a turn and you hit gravel odds are you're being introduced to fast moving pavement.
