I do not always give waves or HD salutes ... and in turn do not always expect to get a return.
Nothing personal[/quote]

What exactly is this HD salute? Is that the wave with just one finger?

Something Willie G. came up with years ago ... left arm pointed toward the ground with finger extended.

It's easy for me because my finger is always extended. I cut my finger off at the joint in a table saw. The finger was reattached and had a pin in it for six weeks. The finger was saved, however it does not bend at the joint anymore.

Does it matter how you wave, do different signs mean anything different?

And, last but not least, do you wave at metrics or only at HD riders?
2 things.

one, no such thing as a stupid question. You'll understand the more you visit this forum.

two, you wave, salute, nod, peace-sign, finger or nothing if you want to. Just like you modify your scoot to be yours individually. Pick your style and roll with it and let others do the same, just keep your eyes on the road and don't worry if the bike you just pasted saw you or replied. There's worse things in the road to be worried about.

Occassionaly I will give a nod, or a 1/2 hearted wave. But I figure that, when in my car or truck, I don't wave at every car or truck that passes......so why be so much different on my bike?
Twenty or thirty years ago I waved more, but now......with so many bikes on the road it gets to be a pain in the ****.

When I got my bike a couple of months ago I was out riding by myself one afternoon and the wind was blowing about 50 miles an hour and I had just found out about this bike wave and low and behold I look up and here comes about 100 Harley riders towards me. I am going about 55mph into the wind trying to just hold on to the bike and all these guy start giving the wave and I would not dare turn lose of a grip for nothing...I am better now I can turn lose at 70 mph....
Operating a table saw is kinda like riding a bike....I been using one of those about 30 years still have all 10.

You should only wave while wearing fingerless gloves and assless chaps.
