Yeah I was thinkin that I get it changed at 1,000 anyways but I'm real worry wart so I wanted to just top it off so not to hurt anything. Anybody know what oil comes in them off the showroom floor? Weight and Brand? A couple of guys told me that if you switch to Synthetic it'll start leaking thats why the dealer says ALWAYS use Conventional
Really, then why does HD now recommend that you use HD Syn-3 oil?
Synthetic oil does not cause seals to leak. Synthetic oil will clean "gunk" and "crud" from an old engine, and if that's what's holding old, dried out seals and gaskets together, then yes, they will start leaking.
I have to agree 100% whole-heartedly with the last five posts to this thread. Hell, just this past weekend, I topped off my Mobil 1 10W50 syn with OMG...10W30 Quaker State. Oh, and some of those synthetic blend oils that OFG was talking about is actually recycled oil that the oil companies buy back from all the auto parts stores, (the big tank in back that everyone dumps there used into whether it's syn or dino oil), or solvent recyclers, like Safety-Kleen, that the oil has been reprocessed to meet a certain standard and re-sold to you.
Ok guys thanks for the help, I doubled check the oil level and its right at the low mark before I have to add so I'm goin to just wait it out a couple hundred and then do it on my 1k Service, thanks for the help and I WILL be switching to Synthetic in the future, THANKS
Yea don't over fill I bought a 1970 sporty from a guy for 300 bucks he thought he had blown the engine There was more oil (and i mean all over )on that thing than you find on oil rig. well I took the bike washed it down at the car wash got home drained the oil and I'll be dammed there had to of been better that a gallon of oil in that thing took a while for it to quit burning (smoking)the residue oil that was dripping from who knows where all over the engine and exhaust but it turned out to a pretty good little 4 speed bike.
