i just changed my oil in my 2001 xl1200c i used valvoline conventional 20/50 and a hiflo oil filter should i have used hd oil and filter? i also changed my plugs had autolite brand in the bike i replaced with ngk any thoughts on this?
the filter is hiflofiltro part number hf170c on the box it doesn't say motorcycle specific but it does list the filters it replaces and all are hd so i guess its harley specific?
Don't worry one bit about using the Hiflofiltro (HiFlo) filters, and yes, the model HF170C (Chrome) and HF170B (Black) filters are for the Harley EVO engines, including the Sportsters.
Hiflofiltro is a OE manufacturer, and their filters exceed all OEM specifications. They are also TUV certified, which mean they have passed very high quality and performance standards.
awesome thanks guys the hd shop is a good 45 minute ride (1 way) and i picked up the filter just 5 minutes up the road nice to know its no big deal if you dont use hd brand and i have had god luck with valvoline oil in all my trucks so i think ill be ok
I did do some cross referencing of the oil filter. I went to the stealer and asked what the filter number number was, and got "its harley part #-----."
Went to Napa Auto Parts and they had the book and said its a 3614.
i did some looking on the net and found the hiflofiltro filters are premium filters for atv's and motorcycles found lots of positive things about them..... but also found a few articles about inferior junk filters guess you have to watch what you get
