[quote=AdrianVall;5479414]WHAT?!!? That's insane!! How many engine rebuilds have you gone through?

I've rebuilt my bike from the ground up twice, it had 90k on it when I bought it in '97. It was torn apart and in boxes when I got it. I'm on my third spedometer. I had an old honda cb350 that I rode to arizona twice when I was in high school, I think I put close to 40k on it before I sold it. The frame finally cracked at the fork stem, about a year after I bought the harley.

I ride 170 kms (104 miles) round trip to work, 5 days a week, In all weather, even snow. No rebuild yet, but I've used some parts. 4 starter drives, 2 belts (traction sand in the winter kills them), 3 sets of tires, 4 sets of brake pads, rear master brake cylinder, wheel bearings, fork seals, 1 speeding ticket and 1 minor accident. I have to replace my drive pulleys and belt, swing arm bearings and rebuild my clutch (cracked the pressure plate). If we get a mild winter this year, I should be close to 160,000 kms (100,000 miles) by next September.

I have a 1999 XL883 that I bought in May of 2003 with just less than 1,400 miles showing on the Odometer. I now have a little over 48,000 miles showing on the Odometer so that means that I have put about 46,600 miles on just this Sportster myself. I have other Sportsters that I ride as well, but this ’99 XL883 is my normal, everyday, back and forth to work, take it ANYWHERE, daily rider that is about the most bulletproof, care free, piece of mind motorcycle that I have ever owned. I do my own PM and scheduled services and I fix what brakes, when it brakes ‘cause if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I just came back on August 12th 2009 from the 69th anniversary Bike week in Sturgis and that was a 4,000 mile round trip from CA to SD and back again and I took this same bike on a 6,000 mile round trip in nine days, coast to coast, from CA to VA and back again, just this past June. I would have NO PROBLEM taking this bike ANYWHERE. I plan to go coast to coast, CA to VA again next June and I also plan to go to Sturgis again next August for the 70th anniversary of Bike week. See you all out there! Hey! For all you XL883 riders out there, an XL883 can take you wherever you want to go. I have a 3.3 gallon tank and about the time my butt starts to squirm around a bit, I am about out of gas. So, I stop, I get my gas and I take a minute or so to walk around a bit and then I get back on and ride another tank full of gas out again. I repeat as often as necessary to get to where I want to go! Sometimes I get a bottle of water to sip on and then hit the saddle again. This seems to work for me. I don’t have a windshield or long distance seat like a HD Sundowner on this Sportster so I don’t know what my limit would be if I changed my seat out for a better suited distance seat, but I have gone as far as about 1,200 miles in one day on this bike and I have no complaints about it as is. S P O R T S T E R S R U L E !!!

09 Iron 883.

Bought June 1st.

As of August 26th, odometer reading is 3171.

And it's rained probably 70% of that time.

My '95 XL1200 has 15,000 miles on it, but I just bought it last month with 14,000. It's like new.
