ive looked all over the forums and cant find anything for what im looking for, my problem is i have a 89 sporster and it wont charge it has a brand new stator,voltage regulator and battery if any one can help i would appreciate it cuz its beautiful out thanks
my father in law has the clymer book for this bike and he did all the test for the charging system and they came back good, when i first got the bike the volt. reg. waqs bad so got a new one still didnt charge so changed stator and put new battery in but still wont start it wqas like around 14 but when you shut it off it will drop to like 12.5 and if you start it and just let it idle it wont go past 12.5 then drop to under 12 when you stop it it

The charging system is not designed to "charge" the battery at idle, it can take 20 - 30 minutes of riding to replace the amount of energy that was drained from the battery each time you start the motor.
A new battery should also be float charged for 24 hours prior to use.
What voltage do you have across the battery with the motor at a FAST (2,000 RPM) idle?
