If it gets to the point where you can't talk, who the hell cares where your registration is.
Sometimes I carry a current reg/ins in my wallet. Most times I don't care - you only need it if you do something stupid and get pulled over. In 25 years I've never needed it. Probably catch up to me next time I ride.
Well you might be surprised how little it takes for someone to not be able to communicate. If you're riding by yourself and have others out there that might care about your well being it makes things a hell of a lot easier for us to help answer questions about where all the belongings are.
In my case my wallet ended up being left in the ambulance which belonged to a volunteer dept. that was 45 minutes away from the hospital I ended up in. Once I was able to talk to the trooper in the ER it would've made things a little difficult to show my proof of insurance and registration if it had been in my wallet instead of my jacket pocket. Just one person's experience, do whatever the hell you want to.
I was going to say, "I guess I am the only one who puts it in my helmet" but I see now that I am not alone. I have to have the helmet on so I always have it. No moving it from jacket to jacket or leaving it on the bike where if someone did steal it then they would find it.
Registration isn't needed anymore, it's almost 2010. They can run your tag through their computer.
That's not to say some cop having a bad day won't chew you out for not having it. But I've been pulled over twice in the past 5 years and they only asked for license and insurance, didn't even have the registration with me.

You're correct, there should be no reason to have to carry the registration.
However, each state's laws dictate whether or not you are required to carry it and most still do. It's just not worth the potential hassle IMO, to not carry that little piece of paper. I never found it advisable to pi$$ off a cop.
