gas tank swap on 1997 883?

So I'm looking at a 1997 883 Hugger that has the peanut style gas tank (3.3 galloons I believe?). Is it possible to replace it with the larger 4.5 gallon tank that come on the custom sportster model? Obviously I'll have to get a larger tank off a carb'd model bike but are the front and rear mounts the same on 1997 as the pre-2007 custom's so the tanks would be interchangeable?

Nope, they're not interchangeable. The frame & tank mounting changed in '04. You could always go with an aftermarket tank like a Fat Bob tank though.
