Default older exhaust

i know exhaust has been beat the death on this forum, but im not gonna ask "whats the loudest pipes" like everyone else. what i wanna know is if theres a company out there that makes pipes similar in design to the rinehart crossbacks for a 90 sporty? ive seen a ton of pipes i LOVE, like crossbacks, shortshots, some bassani's, and others.... and they all seem to be for 04 and up! owning a 90, am i pretty much stuck to striaght pipes or slipons? i havent found crap for selection for older bikes.

I had a '96 and had the exact same issues finding exhaust. You would think, that with as many sportsters as are out on the road, SOMEBODY would make after market pipes to fit the earlier evo models. They generally don't. I had my indie get me some cycle shack slip ons that worked great and sounded really good but it wasn't any full exhaust system that I was able to find to work well with that year.

thanks oldphat, ill try j&p and see what they got. my bike came with drag pipes with no baffles, but i just picked up a stock exhaust that i punched the slugs out of. it sounds decent and im happy with it, but the looks leave a lot to be desired. the crossbacks are my absolute favorite exhaust, with shortshots running a close second. hopefully i can find something similar somewhere.

my pipes are made by sauntee, they're for an '03, I had to make a bracket to attach them to the frame, but they work fine other than that.

i was wondering about the fitment of the pipes made for newer bikes on old ones. are the pipes basically the same design and shape, just the newer ones have different brackets? i can make anything work if all it needs is a bracket. and if its for the real new bikes, cant you just plug the 02 sensor port, and make the brackets up? anyone tried this?

Well, keep checking around. I saw a kit on Lick's Cycle, I think it was Lick's, that you can make your own custom exhaust. Fab one up yourself & get it chromed. There's exhausts out there for the older sporties, but you've got to look hard for them. Anything from '86 to '03 should fit, or be really close on fit. I think Dennis Kirk had some, mainly different length/diameter/shaped drags that you could always throw some baffles in, but also had some other exhausts like Sauntee/Santee, Bassani, Wetdreamz, Pipe Dreamz, etc.

You need to be looking in Drag Speacilties, Custom Chrome, Dennis Kirk or J&P there are probably 50 differant exhaust system made for the older bikes, they my not be the latest wizbang thing on the market but they are out there if you look.

i know there are a lot of systems... but they all seem to be either drag pipes with 14 choices of tip designs, or they're the same slip on as every other one on the market. i like the crossbacks because of the unique look they give, same with the shortshots. i just checked out a few of the sites you just mentioned, and like i said earlier, other than 15 different kinds of drag pipes (that all still look basically the same) almost every single exhaust on there was for 04-09 sportys. J&P does list Bassani Pro-Street pipes for a 90 sporty, but then on Bassani's website, you cant even select a sporty older than an 04 to shop for exhaust for, so i dont know what the deal is there.
