I've searched this forum and the 'net in general and haven't had any luck with this...
I want to put a bottom mount headlight on my FXDL without replacing the trees. The front end is the same as a Sporty so I figured you guys might have an idea. How can I do this? I would prefer a chromed billet piece rather than stamped. I think that Headwinds makes a part that does what I need, but their website is sadly light on info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The problem I'm having is that the headlight currently mounts to the eyebrow. Most all aftermarket headlights (and all the ones I would like to choose from) mout from below (typically to the lower tree). There is no mounting hole on my stock lower tree for a headlight. I reallyy don't want the expense of a new set of trees and I would prefer not to have to totally remove the front end to take the lower tree to a machine shop and have a hole drilled. Someone must make a bracket. I'm sure I'm not the first or only person that wants to do this...
If I can't find one I'm going to design my own and have a few extras made to sell on eBay to recover my costs (machining setup costs). I'll get the word out if it comes to this...
hey i just came back from my harley shop hang out, got to lokkin a t the front ends, if you can get a jack, and remove the front wheel and fender it looks like a pretty easy job. you will have plenty of drilling room from the bottom.. if not drive the thong down here and ill do it for ya!!
The more I look at it, the more I think that I'll take the front end off and put it in the drill press and drill it. I was doing some other stuff to the bike and was looking at all the stuff I need to chrome. The trees are only polished aluminum, not chromed. I'm thinking I'll pull the trees, risers and a few other things off and take it all to the plating shop after I drill the hole. It'll have to wait awhile but will probably be the best solution. Thanks.
