So my 16 year old is getting his haircut, and the conversation turns to bikes, which my son dosnt know much about, the barber mentions to my son he has a Heritage Classic, my son mentions to the barber that i have a Sportster. The barber asks which one, the 1200 or 883 my son says 1200,(its actually a 883) the barber then says, Oh! thats a nice starter bike! So if he thinks a 1200 is just a starter bike, then what would he have said if my son told him i had a 883.
so i told my son, next time you get your hair cut, mention to the barber that "my dad wants a bike like yours when he gets old too"
Don't worry, the barber is just jealous because he can't keep up with your 883 - from a light or on the twisties. You're right, when you get older a BT may appeal to you. Until then keep the rest of them jealous!
Heh. Well, since I'm a beginner I guess his saying that wouldn't be an insult to me. However, I did buy the 1200C because I felt that it was something I could use for a long time. I should also add that my MSF instructor who was probably about 55 or 60 and had been riding a LONG time rides a Sportster, so I don't quite think it would be a beginner bike for him, though he did say he has a sidecar on it.
MY LAST SPORTY WAS A 1200, WAS PLENTY FAST AND THEN SOME, MY 883 IS PLENTY FAST, AND RUBBER MOUNTED. WHEN I DO THE 1200 CONVERSION IT WILL BE PLENTY FAST AND THEN SOME.
I REALLY COULDNT REALLY SEE ME OWNING JUST A BIG TWIN, LIKE THE BARE BONES SPORTY.
AND HELL, AT 5"4 135LBS, IT IS A BIG BIKE, LOL.
Just a note so we dont stereo type all the big twin guys, i have a Biker bud, that drives a old GLUIDE, he says as long as its a Harley, who cares.
in my opinion we are all equal and all just as crazy to be out on the road with all the crackpots out there.
I used to get PO'd over the same crap from guys when I had my "sporty" Which I do miss, just can't afford to have two. Usually it come from the mouth of some moron who doesn't ride or rides a jap bike. A harley is a harley is a harley, if you're happy tell them to kiss you A$$.
I just bought a 05 1200C a week or so ago, with 981 miles.
The plan was to ride it for a year and trade it for a Dyna super or some such thing.
However after having put 500 miles on it we (Mrs.C. & I) are really diggin it!
Not sure that I will trade it off. I can smoke a buddys 883 turned 1200 WITH my wife on board!
And another friend with a modified Dyna lowrider cant catch us either (Damn near though LOL)
I know its not all about speed, for me anyways but it will pull the front wheel thru 4th if Im trying, handles VERY well in the corners, sounds awsume, looks even better, retains its value, only $11,000.
Im proud it says "Sporster"
My friends on their big twins can laugh all they want and point UP AHEAD at us! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
