Thanks !

Now I don't feel quite "ashamed" while riding with my posse.

I was inspecting the stock mufflers and they have slits located at the lip. I think the dealership must have special tools that they insert in this lip and spead the metal a bit to facilitate the separation.

Anyway, I'm sorta glad I removed the whole thing. At least I know that I didn't bend or damage anything while horsing the thing off the headers.

The install went quite smoothly, the bike performed flawlessly, so I know in my mind that the job, while it took longer, was done right.
There's no special tool, lube it and get mean with the SOB!!!

Just put on my new Rush straight cut slip on mufflers. Can't even tell you how great the bike sounds and performs now. 2009 Electraglide Standard. I'm sure I picked up about 8 to 12 ponies along with the great sound. I went with the 2" baffles and am glad I did. Install was very easy. Stock mufflers had 7,000 miles on them. Just loosened the muffler clamp and the two bolts on the saddle bag rail and with a back and forth motion they wiggled right off. Install was even easier. Cleaned 'em off with alcohol before firing them up and voila! Wife put on Vance & Hines slash cut and same easy procedure was followed. Those stock mufflers from the factory...might as well put on straight pipes and shove a potato in the muffler for all the good they do! Ride ON

This spring I'm going to put on some Rush slash cut slip-ons with a 1.5 or 1.75 baffle. Can't wait to fire it up and hear that rumble.

Your bike is exactly like mine.

Given those two sizes, go with the 1.75". Trust me on this....

Update:

I've long since put about 150 miles since the install, and I absolutely LOVE the way my bike sounds.

I've even made up excuses just to take her out just to hear that famous V-twin song.

And because of these pipes, I've now picked up a rather "bad" habit:

I've become a chronic "revver". Is that a bad thing ?

Yeah, the Rush mufflers have a nice 'deep tone', not a bit 'tinny' like some of the other aftermarket mufflers out there.

They sound good when you are on the bike, but if there is someone you trust riding your bike stand on the side of a road and have them ride by at about 60 MPG. You will really like what you hear.....
