i have an 06 xlc. and just made a 250 mile ride and noticed now when i get into 2nd gear and sort of romp on it theres a bad vibration, im tryin to figure out what this is and why its happening. almost feels like 2nd gear might be slipping also could just be my inspection chain or atleast thats what the stealer is saying. any ideas or clues would help.
I doubt that 2nd gear is slipping. The feeling of a bad gear will not be excessive vibration. I had a couple of teeth broke on 3rd gear on my sporty and you could feel it slip hard when the broke area tried to mesh with the teeth on the other shaft.
By "inspection chain" I think you may be thinking of the primary chain. That is quite easy to check and is a regular maintenance item.
Roughly about 20-25mph when shifting into 2nd. Not sure what the rpms are at. Just seems kinda wierd that after that trip is when it started to happen. I didnt go anu faster than 75mph amd that was just to hang with tje flow of traffic

This may not be the source of the vibration, but when you said; "when i get into 2nd gear and sort of romp on" and you're doing so at 20-25 MPH, you are likely to get some "lugging". First gear should be wound up higher if you're going to go WOT when you hit 2nd gear.
But, as said above, check the Primary Chain adjustment.
Also, how many miles on the bike, and how long since the primary chain was adjusted?
I dont romp on it at like 20-25mph. More like 30ish. Its got 15,000mls on her and i think it is about time to get it adjusted cause ie never had it done and i bought it with 1,500mls on it.

Yep, you are WAY past due. That's an every 5,000 mile check/adjust service item, especially during the first 10,000 miles. You really ought to take a look at the recommended service schedule in the back of the Owners Manual. Keeping up with minor adjustments and service work now will likely save you from some very expensive repairs later.
Some of the ads we get at the bottom are funny, the topic is bike vibration and the ad at the bottom is for a body vibrator. Iguess it helps to pay for the site.
Keep in mind that if your primary chain is the problem, and you let it go much longer than you already have; and it breaks: The scooter is TOAST. You won't be able to do more damage to your bike if you put a grenade in there. I've seen it. Not pretty. Primary chain inspection and adjustment are easy and quick.
Wow. Yeah i kinda figured thats what it might be. Ill deffinately stop at the stealer outside lafayette on my way back home on saturday. Here goes another 100 or so bucks. Do you think it might make it to a local indy shop in houston. 250 mile ride back home.
