Default throttle-itis

I started this thread the other day but in the new members area (probably not the best place for it) but, and I know this is an issue that's been discussed to death but MAN! What is with the throttle on my bike? 2008 1200 LOW with very twitchy throttle -ultra sensitive which I'm starting to get used to but the worst thing is when it gets hung. After cruising 50 to 60 mph for a few minutes and I come into slower traffic areas or up to a stop -it's stuck, not like physically stuck but rpm's up and throttle closed! It eventually comes down to idle by itself after several seconds but definitely a safety hazard. Any ideas? Anyone?

Have you checked the slack in the throttle cable. I'm not even sure there is any room for slack but it sounds like a good place to start. OR maybe something is sticking.

If it stays revved up after the throttle is closed (and you're certain it's closed?) maybe the tps?

Are you downshifting as you come to a stop, meaning you are using the engine to slow the bike? If you pull in the clutch and hold it in and stop with only the brakes, the engine will seem to take a while to come down to idle. I have noticed this on my Nightie, especially if it's not up to operating temp.

Yep, I usually downshift coming to a stop, especially when the rev's are actin up. In fact I'll down shift even into first thinking this will help pull the revs down. But as soon as I pull in the clutch - VVVRRRMMMBBBLLLLMMMMMBBLL - or somethin like that for several seconds and then slowly down to idle by itself. Kinda embarrassing really. The cagers think I'm tryin t' be some kinda ahoe. The other night I started it up cold and it did it for about 4 or 5 seconds - never did that before. Just might be the TPS slowly goin' south.

Fuel injected engines use a part called an Idle air control valve to control idle rpm. When the throttle open the valve is fully open. When you close the throttle there is a lag time before the valve gets back to base rpm.It happens slowly to prevent stalling and a spike in exhaust emissions. That is the basic explanation of how it works.
