Advice,
Just got off the phone with local dealer. They did not suggest this b/c of PCM/ignition issues with '04 and newer sporsters. Has anyone done one, and if so, were there any issues with getting it to run right afterwards.
Thanks,
Jason
Mine runs fine. Played with pilot jet a couple times to make it run better, thats about it. It was lean w/ #42, I went too far rich w/ #48, then OK with #45
Tell your dealer "Puff, puff, give!" Don't know what they're smoking. My dealer did my 1200 conversion before I even picked up my brand new bike. No problems at all. My advice - go with a 1250 conversion and have a local indy shop do it. You might spend an extra $250, but you'll get an extra 5-7% more H.P. that you won't be able to get again.
Many of us rubber's have 1200 conversions without any problems.
Your dealer may be confused on one issue - if you go with an aftermarket ignition, then you my have a problem with the speedo. But the stocker will still work fine.
your dealer is nuts...my dealer did a conversion last december for me. SE reverse dome pistons and new jugs. i had already done the stage 1. i had to rejet the carb again but other than that all was left alone. it runs great and once i broke it in it gets around 53 mpg on the highway and about 43-44 around town. go for it...
