That insurance thing is bull, I think my insurance agent told me that same thing, I dont know of ANYONE who only rides there bike 2000 miles per year. The first year I had mine, 4 out of the 12 months it was in the shop, and I still rode about 8000 miles.
I do see a lot of older bikes with low, low miles on them. I am talking in few hundreds low. I don't know who owns them or why they got the bike in the first place. But since the OP was asking about the "average" then I guess 2K/yr is a good guesstimate. Mine for example is a 2003 with 8K.
I bought my 2002 1200 used with about 12500 on the clock. I have had to replace the tranny already and the tires were dry rotted but I guess you pay for what you get. If I do it again I would look for a bike that has higher mileage around 4000 minimum per year would be my guess. I would never buy another bike that hasn't been ridden unless I know the circumstances. But that is me... hope this helps.By the way I got her last May and had the 25K service done at a Milwaukee dealer on my trip to MO this year. It seems the bike likes it better when she is ridden. Go Figure...

I personally really like the Nightster, and I don't think $6500 is too bad. Tell them you will take it for that price "out the door". The engines will run well into the 50,000 mile range, pretty much maintenence free.
Thanks for the info. The reason that I ask, there is a used Nightster certified by a Harley dealership being sold by a credit union as a repo. It is an '08 Nightster with 4,900 miles. The asking price is $6,500. Deal or No Deal? What do you think? Just "face value", I know there are other factors. No mods, just stock.
****Try buying an 08 Model here! they would try to Scalp! one for at least 14Grand Aust..thats how it is here! absolute Rip Off's. Have a look at different sites in Aust for Prices & you will see what I mean.
When I got my insurance 8 months ago, I was told by the lady on the phone from Progressive insurance that the average was 2,000 miles per year. hope that helps.
Really?? 2,000 miles per year? I would be afraid the tires had dry rotted if that's all the bike was used.

I have to agree. I would offer $6000 and meet at $6250 (otd). The only question I'd have is about the repo part. Maybe those who cannot afford cannot afford to maintain either.
