Default FI question.

Greetings Sportster riders. Could anyone tell me the first year that HD put fuel injection in XL's?

Thanks.

Yep 2007 is the year for FI Xl's. There is no way I would ever have a carbed street bike after having FI bikes. My Step dad has a real nice 02 883 and you really have to plan aready to go ride if it's been sitting. It takes forever to warm up and run good, but my 07 1200 FI starts right up and runs good. I always let any bike warm up some before I ride, but if you need to you can just get on and go with the FI.

i guess im the only one i know of who doesnt really have to wait around forever. i do the three minute warm up session in anything whether its my truck or scoot. i rarely use my choke. and no i dont have it idling to high. but almost makes me wonder lol

Yup...07...20004-2006 are the only rubber mounted carbed bikes. I remember reading an article a few years back how HD inadvertently made a future collectors item.

As far as the carb - injected debate, I guess I am in the minority here. I do have both. I prefer the sound, the simplicity, and the mechanics of carbed bikes. Maybe to others, but pulling out a 1 inch round **** is not that big of a chore for me.

+1 - Plus it costs about $5.00 to rejet for Stage 1, 2 or 3 and can be completely rebuilt by an amateur/weekend wrench for ~$15.00 parts. No fuel pump to fail, o2 sensors to strip out, or $500.00 fuel management system needed to make the bike run right.

Your step dad's bike is F'd up then. Even with a cold start-up, I can hop right on mine & take off. +100 on what Trailey, Mandog & cHarley said.

I just feel in this day and age that a carb is out dated on any street vehicle. If you all like cards then so be it, but for me it's FI or nothing.
