shuts down when hot
Hi, I don't know if anyone has any advice. I have a 98 sportster 1200c and after 15-20 miles at 75mph it begins to miss and then eventually shutdown. I only have to let it cool for about 5 minutes and it runs good again for a short period of time. It will also do this in the city if I ride somewhat aggressively. Anyway, I have replaced plugs, cleaned and oiled the air filter. I had it to the dealer and they replaced some intake gaskets and seals. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Thx Greg

Don't know if this is your problem, but it recently happened to me. Every day, after riding only about 15 minutes, the bike would act like it's running out of gas. Switching to reserve didn't help. It happened 4 or 5 times, and I decided to pull the petcock to see if the screen was plugged. I pulled the fuel line off of the carb, put some vacuum on the vacuum line to the petcock and could not get any gas to drain. I pulled the petcock and the screen was clean. Took the vacuum diaphram apart and found a little crud in there. Cleaned it up, put it all back together and it's been fine now for about 2 months. I have a new custom tank to install with a petcock that doesn't use vacuum. Just something that you might want to check.
