Cut the old ones off with a razor knife, soak the new ones in some warm soapy water for a while until they get warm and more flexable then slide them on!

Ahhh... I wasn't aware that the clutch side grip may have to be cut off when removed. I have an 09' Nightster and I'm looking to change out my bars sometime over the next few weeks. Guess I better invest in a new set of grips while I'm at it incase the OEM clutch side needs to or gets destroyed in the process.

Nah....You don't need to cut off the old rubber grip on the left side...........find a piece of flat scrap metal or a long thin flat screw driver.....remove the switch housing and clutch lever.....insert the long flat metal piece under the grip and stab it in all the way to break the factory glue....remove the metal and then insert it again in a different location....keep doing this all the way around the bar until you have broken the grip of the old glue and you can finally twist the grip off the bars.

Sand the remaining glue off the bars and use something like PVC liquid cement, contact cement, or GOOP to reinstall the old rubber grip.

Default grip removal

As stated above, after removing the switch housing. Not sure if it is a good idea or not, but i slide flat screwdriver under the Left grip, spray some WD 40 in there, and start twisting and sliding the screwdriver around and the grip comes right off.
I am sure the throttle side will be much more involved.
That post was funny as He11 oinker, thanks man. I have to try it just to see what the he11 you are talking about it sounds like fun.
I think the lap top will have to go to the garage with me for play by play directions, if it does nothing else at least i can set a beer on it and hope the little brass things land in the keyboard where i can find them.
Last time i tried following computer directions on a bike repair i got soaked in gas and my garage smelled like gas for a week.
Hope this works out better.
I will keep you posted,

I got new bars for mine and used stock grips. the left grip has a lip that goes into the switch housing that holds it in place... I did not glue the grip on the bar and it fits tight enough so it doesn't spin.

That was an exelent description for grip replacement.. and you can't stress enough about the brass inserts... it may be helpful to use small needlenose pliers or hemostats to get the cable ends in the slots.

Default Needlenose or hemostats

Hey Oinker, besides holding the little brass thingy are hemostats also used to hold the roach behind your ear?? I think that is what they teach in medical school.
