just wandering if anyone has used this kit? How does the black high heat coating look? Just want to know for sure that it doesn't mar the look of the wrap because I think it is made for more under the hood use.
I have. I didn't spend that much though. I won mine on a bid type purchase and not "buy it now." I think I paid around $35.
The first time I didn't use the coating and the wrap faded to gray/white at the hotest spots really quickly. This last time, however, I used it.
The spray doesn't go on quite as black as you would imagine. It's not like paint. It's more like a water proofing solution with some black pigment. There will be quite a bit of residual falling after you spray so I would recommend covering everything in your work area. Don't try coating while the pipes are on the bike and put at least 2 or 3 coats on them.
End result...I'm really very happy with it. Smells nasty for a while (but so does the untreated wrap) but worth it.
I appreciate the info bro! I was wonderin if i should use the **** in the kit or if i should buy the spray silicone stuff. Now that i know it isnt gonna look like hell i feel better!
Hey thanks man! they are pipe dreamz insomniacz. I absolutely love them man....loud, big time hp, and the best as far as looks i think. i am about 3 weeks from putting some black heat wrap on them so check back in a month or so to see them done!
I bought the tan thermal tape off of ebay and picked up a can of DEI hi-temp silicone coating from Pepboys. Stuff goes on black and covers the tan tape. Really works great, heat is reduced. Used to burn my right leg at stoplights. No more.
